John 'Shark' Hanlon who trains his horses out of Bagenalstown, County Carlow confirms that popular horse 'Hewick' will run in the Punchestown Gold Cup.
The popular horse already has an impressive resume with wins in the American Grand National, King George and a Galway plate but will be looking to add the Punchestown Gold Cup to his trophy cabinet.
Earlier in the Hewick was pulled from the Cheltenham Gold Cup race due to the ground being unsuitable for the horse, so they will be looking to bounce back from that disappointment by coming out strong in the big race at Punchestown.
The Punchestown Gold Cup will take place on May 1st 2024. Odds from the Racing-Odds puts Hewick as a 16/1 outsider as he looks to triumph over another horse trained in Carlow, Willie Mullins' Galopin Des Champs who is favourite for the race at a price of 4/5. Galopin Des Champs fresh off his succesive win at the Cheltenham Gold Cup earlier in the year.
